Christopher Hitchens

Christopher Hitchens is heavily revered as one of the best debaters of his generation. A journalist and author, he was a vastly intelligent individual with a left wing sensibility. His encyclopaedic knowledge of topics ranging from global politics to religious dogma made him a fierce adversary for anyone interviewing or questioning him.

He was also a man known for his acerbic wit with a gift for delivering cutting one liners. For example...

On journalism -"I became a journalist because I did not want to rely on newspapers for information."

On writing - "Everybody does have a book in them, but in most cases that's where it should stay."

On religion - "The gods that we've made are exactly the gods you'd expect to be made by a species that's about half a chromosome away from being chimpanzee."

In a culture that is increasingly happy to ignore the bigger picture surrounding news stories, characters like Christopher Hitchens are becoming increasingly important to remind us to not believe everything we read. He was a man obsessed with sourcing and fact checking information before putting anything on record.

Below are three examples of Hitchens doing what he did best. Astounding factual monologues which will captivate and enlighten you. ENJOY.
